Since 1976, The Giro d'Italia has had a young rider classification. The leader in this classification wears the maglia bianca (Italian for white jersey). The classification is determined by the best overall time, but only young cyclists were in the competition.

From 1976 on, the cut-off age for cyclists to be competing in the young rider classification was 24 years. After 1994, the competition was not calculated anymore.

Since the 2007 edition, the young riders classification is calculated again, but now the cut-off age is 25 years old.
